Whats It Worth? eBay Sets The Price For Hot Diecast Collectibles
05.31.04 (4:54 pm)   [edit]
So, you are "so so" serious about that diecast collection you've kept since childhood. Once in a while, you take a few cars out of the case, have a look at them, spin the wheels, (diecast collectors version of kicking the tires), and put them back. Have you considered what you may have there? Have you considered the value?

Nowadays, aside from the Hall's Guide, eBay sets the price for diecast collectibles.

A look at eBay will show a redline 442 Olds Hotwheels car, 1:64 of course, at $910.00 U.S. with a 6 days left to run.

Other diecast collectibles are also hot commodities on eBay nowadays.

An Ertl 1950's John Deere Standard Tread Tractor toy with original box shows at $865.00 U.S. with a couple of days to run.

Other sites besides eBay are also good places to list your diecast collectibles. Several smaller diecast auction sites have sprung up over the last few years. Most notably of course is Hobby Wheels Deals a smaller site with a great selection.

Who knew our toys would become so valuable? How has this taken away from our kids these days, when everything is MOC, or MIB, and kids think they have to leave it that way? We used to just play with them. Kids seem to have portfolios as opposed to toy boxes anymore. Not sure that is a good thing.

Naturally, as adults, it is a great surprise to many to find old toys they had put away have appreciated in value so much. The question most of us have is: Do I sell them or keep them? It is difficult to say. Diecast collectibles are not a fad. The hobby has staying power, and has been around for many years. One school of thought says sell now when the market is red hot, and the other says hang on and see if the market gets hotter. Either way is a gamble. The numbers we look at represent some serious cash for the casual collector who may find out, quite by accident, that they have many thousands of dollars worth of "toys" sitting in the attic.

So, if you haven't already, you better get up to the attic, dig out those old toys, the ones you haven't already given to your own kids, and have a look at what you've got.

The way the market is presently, you may just have enough there to put a kid through college!

Maisto Press Release - HOODZ
05.30.04 (7:41 pm)   [edit]
Fontana, CA. Maisto International today officially launched their new line of vehicles named Hoodz. The products were first shown if rough form to the trade in February at The American International Toy Fair in New York, and were widely hailed for their unique, innovative design and appearance.

The main concept of Hoodz is the fish-eye lens angle that is so prominent in advertisements and the photographic art world. “We tried to capture a cool 3-D version of what people are seeing in the print world. Our execution turned out over the top”, said Roger Ngan, Director of R & D. “The large front end of the cars is obviously what will catch everyone’s eye. But there is a lot more to the line.”

The scale is undetermined. “The cars probably span a couple of different scales”, says Rick Berman, Director of S/M/L. “The whole concept of Hoodz is to be different. Angled packaging. Cars with no scale. Girls on the package. It’s all different. It’s all good.”

Each vehicle’s packaging does feature animated art of 1 of 4 girls on the front of the package. While not intended to be the prominent aspect of the packaging, they do stand out. “We gave each girl a personality”, says Berman. “ Their personality relate to the type of vehicles they are packaged with – no more, no less. The vehicle, the display stand, the individuality of the collection – that is what Hoodz is all about”

Series 1 and 2 feature 6 titles with 2 different colors, and should be on the retail shelves as early as the first week of June. The titles include:

Ford Mustang (classic)
Ford Mustang SVT
Chrysler 300B
Ford F-350
Subaru WRX
Dodge Viper GT2

Series 3 and 4 will be released towards the end of the Summer.

The Maisto brand name was registered in 1990 by May Cheong, a vertically integrated manufacturer based in Hong Kong. The company has been manufacturing die cast for over 30 years, have over 11,000 employees worldwide and manufacturing facilities covering over 2,000,000 square feet.

Ertl Takes John Deere Full Throttle
05.27.04 (8:51 pm)   [edit]
Bolingbrook, IL (January 6, 2004)-Building upon the success of the officially-licensed John Deere Ertl line, RC2 Corporation announces plans to take farm and construction play full speed ahead into the future with the introduction of its John Deere Full Throttle vehicle line. These unique, die-cast collectibles combine time-honored "boy" farm and construction vehicle play patterns with the hot, tuner car craze of the new millennium. RC2's John Deere Full Throttle will be the only officially-licensed John Deere farming and construction tuner vehicle line on the market when the Company introduces its first product in January 2004.

The initial release of John Deere Full Throttle Vehicles will include die-cast "Barn Burners," highly-stylized John Deere Farm Vehicles, and "Earth Shakers," sleek, contemporary John Deere Construction Vehicles. All John Deere Full Throttle products feature low profile tires, ground effects, chrome stacks, custom wheels, die-cast bodies and nitrous oxide tanks. Each vehicle will also have its own unique style number to enhance collectibility.

"The John Deere Full Throttle Vehicles are the ultimate dream machines for today's young kids," states Peter Henseler, President of RC2 Corporation. "This innovative concept successfully fuses the timeless, popular worlds of big machine equipment with the ultra-hip and cool tuner market. We are pleased to be working with John Deere once again on products that will appeal to kids' imaginations with this exciting new category of toys."

RC2 CORPORATION-FULL THROTTLE JOHN DEERE
Additionally, Curt Stoelting, CEO of RC2 Corporation, comments that John Deere Full Throttle will add to the success and growth rate of this classic property that has been a part of RC2 Corporation's Ertl® brand for nearly 60 years. "Recent trends in the toy industry show that kids are looking for toys that 'tune' themselves," Stoelting says. "We've seen this trend illustrated first-hand with the success of our top-selling The Fast and the Furious and 2 Fast 2 Furious die-cast toys and the increasing popularity of tuner licenses such as our newly-acquired American Chopper® property. Combining the concepts of traditional farm and construction collectibles with the new craze in tuner toys makes this a win-win innovation for retailers, as well as today's consumers."
