What A Toy Can Mean To A Kid - Ailing boy dreams of Hot Wheels
07.15.04 (6:07 am)   [edit]
A really nice story for our readers.

Matthew Scott Swope Jr. climbed up and down from his father's lap, then began bouncing around the room of the family's Needmore home like any typical preschooler.

"You're a nice elevator, Daddy," the 4-year-old Fulton County boy said.

But such high-energy days are few for Matthew, who on June 26 was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer that is very rare in children. On most days, he sleeps for 20 hours.

When he is awake, he loves to play with his beloved Hot Wheels cars. Even if he doesn't have the energy to run them around on the floor, he likes to line them up and look at them, said his father, Matt Swope.

This Christmas, the only thing Matthew asked for were Hot Wheels cars -- a million of them, to be exact. While he didn't get that many, a concerted effort by family and community resulted in the collection of more than 5,000 cars.

He told his great aunt about his wish, who shared the news with the ladies aid society at Sideling Hill Christian Church. From there the campaign just mushroomed, according to Matthew's grandmother, Arletta Swope, whose husband, William, is pastor at the church.

Ertl American Muscle Update 1:18
07.03.04 (9:05 pm)   [edit]
Ertl owns the American Muscle Car diecast market in this collectors opinion.

Outstanding detail, quality, and pricing.

Latest American Muscle update highlights the '70 Dodge Challenger, the 67 Pontiac GTO, the 73 Cadillac Eldorado pace car, and the 40th Anniversary editions for the 66 Pontiac GTO, and the 71 Mustang, Mach I.

The Update from Ertl -

Challenger:

Just like the muscle car lovers back then, today's enthusisasts are still using Cragar wheels in updated designs. These replicas stand as die-cast tributes to this legendary muscle car mainstay.

67 GTO:

Multi-carbed engines made Pontiac's GTO popular from the start, but for 1967 they were discontinued as General Motors shifted its advertising away from racing or "aggressive driving." The GTO easily adapted to this corporate edict; its standard engine becoming the 400 cid., with a couple higher-powered versions available. Exterior refinements for '67 included the rear end, which held four lights on each side, and the introduction of Rally II wheels. The muscle car movement was about to reach maximum flex appeal, and the '67 GTO could bring the brawn with the best of them!

73 Caddy Pace Car:

Every year since the inception of auto racing's premier event, a model year production car has annually begun the Indianapolis 500 by running a "pace lap". The Pace Car Series salutes some of those "leaders of the pack" with authentic replicas

40th Anniversary Offerings:

This special series pays tribute to many of the all-time great muscle cars that will celebrate their 40th anniversaries in 2004. Hoods open to authentic engine compartments, and doors open to impressively-appointed interiors. Each classic replica will be showcased in special anniversary packaging.

HWC Series Three: Olds 442 Newly Retooled with Real Riders® Wheels
07.02.04 (1:58 pm)   [edit]
You just got to love the classic muscle car look of the 60's.

Hot Wheels does it very well.:

HWC Series Three: Olds 442 Newly Retooled with Real Riders Wheels!

By HWC Gary

In the late ‘60s, Oldsmobile would release the ultra-tricked-out 442 to compete with the Pontiac GTO. Within a few short years, Larry Wood would design the Hot Wheels® version for a 1971 release, and it would become one of the most popular castings of all time. Our Olds 442 has now been retooled and joins the HWC™ Real Riders® line.

Shiny Spectraflame™ yellow, this car is like rolling gold! The Olds 442 features white striping and detail work, with a rear spoiler in black. Featuring red-striped, deep-dish Real Riders® wheels, the 442 comes with an opening hood and a crème interior. Of course, no HWC™ car would be complete without a chrome-plated full-metal chassis – and the 442 is no exception.

This is the car you don’t want to miss.

You can Click Here to finish this story, and view the 442.
